You will notice how it perfectly depicts the young hero's limbs, muscles, veins etc.. and find out that when it was finished, in 1504, it was placed at the entrance of Palazzo Vecchio to be admired by the people as an inspiring symbol of the strength and independence of the Florentines. In addition to the David your guide will also lead you to appreciate Michelangelo's striking Prisoners and St.Matthew, and other remarkable works of art also hosted in the Accademia: religious paintings, among which superb gold-ground paintings, by major artists from the 13th to the 17th century, sculptures in plaster by 19th-century masters, and more.
